Test Tube Baby Process
Test Tube Baby Process
Overview
In-vitro fertilization (IVF) is another name for Test Tube Baby. In this technique, using ultra-modern technology, human life creates at a microscopic level. It involves retrieving sperm and eggs from the male and female body and fertilized them IVF lab.
Louise Joy Brown was the first successful test-tube baby born on July 25, 1978, at Oldham and District General Hospital in Manchester, England. Till now, about more than 8 million babies born through Test Tube Baby/ IVF. The infants conceived through Test Tube are completely healthy/ And here are the brief steps for the Test Tube Baby process.
Stage 1: Ovarian Stimulation
In one menstrual cycle, a woman produced one mature ovum. For that, a woman prescribed injectable gonadotropins for 8-10 days to produce a minimum of 10 -15 eggs in a single menstrual cycle.
These injectables are self-administered by the patient mostly, and they are not painful at all. Females undergo transvaginal sonography during this phase for 2-3 times to determine egg size. Once they are matured, the next step is size trigger injection administration. After 34-36 hours of this injection, egg retrieval will perform.
Stage 2: Egg Retrieval And Sperm Collection
Mild sedative or anesthesia is given to the women while retrieving the eggs. It helps women to provide comfort and not feeling the pain through the process. The fertility specialist aspirates eggs from the women’s ovaries using a vaginal ultrasound probe with a fine hollow needle attached to it. On the same day the male-produced semen sample through masturbation or surgical sperm retrieval in case of zero sperm count).
Stage 3: Embryo Formation (Egg And Sperm Fertilization)
Eggs and sperm are fertilized in a petri dish for Test Tube Baby Procedure. And the dish is placed inside an incubator for a few days. During this period, fertility specialists monitor the fertilization of the growth of the embryos.
In some exceptional cases, a single egg is fertilized with one sperm through a micromanipulator known as intracytoplasmic sperm injection. It means the formed embryos are the best quality and grade.
Step 4: Embryo Transfer
With the use of a fine catheter, two or three embryos transferred into the woman’s uterus via a transvaginal approach. The remaining good embryos are frozen and use later in the case if fresh embryo can’t transfer due to certain factors like high progesterone levels, endometrial, and hyperstimulation. The later transformation of embryos is done when all the individual factors are corrected through hysteroscopy or medication.
Step 5: Testing For The Result
After 14 days of embryo transfer, the pregnancy confirmation is done by blood beta HCG level. The single attempt success chances are nearly 70%. And the success chances are 85-90% for the cumulatively in 2 embryo transfer cycles.
